Deal of the day sites in Singapore

3 months ago I wrote a blog entry about Deal of the Day / group-buying sites that have spun off from Groupon.com (originally from USA). Since then, many more sites have sprung up in Singapore. I found 5, back then, and now there are at least 11 more in operation or on the way! Here’s an up-to-date list of sites !
*This list is constantly being updated when I find new deal-of-the-day sites, so do bookmark this page and check back for more great deals!
Some of my links have been …

The Social Network: A movie review

[Note: There are some spoilers in this review, but I've tried to keep it to a minimal. In any case, it will not change the level of your enjoyment of the movie, I promise.]
Last night, thanks to Sony Pictures Singapore and Qais Consulting, I was privileged to be one of the first seventy (or less) members of the public in Singapore to attend an exclusive preview where we were treated to a screening of the highly anticipated fall movie “The Social Network“ (also commonly referred to as “that Facebook movie”), …

Preparing for SMWF Asia 2010

*sings to the tune of Leaving on a Jet Plane*
All my bags are packed, I’m ready to go. I’m standing here outside your door, I hate to remind you but you need to prepare!

SMWF Asia is happening in 12 hours – have you prepared yourselves?
Attending a conference is a big deal to me. I like to get the most out of my time spent at a conference, and the amount of money spent for the conference fees, if any. So here’s how you can prepare the way I do:

Look at …

TweetUps at SMWF Asia 2010

2 months ago, I blogged that I will be attending SMWF Asia 2010 as part of its team of official bloggers. Now it’s less than 2 days away! I’m definitely getting excited, as are many in the local and regional Twitterverse and blogosphere.
If you haven’t registered for the event, or if you’re not sure if you want to pay for the event, you can get a ‘preview’ of sorts by attending the free exhibition and workshops!
Do register for an SMWF Asia workshop pass here.
I’ve started a Google Docs spreadsheet for all …

Advertising’s Image of Women – as presented by Jean Kilbourne

Saw this interesting and powerful video on Amanda’s blog where feminist author and filmmaker Jean Kilbourne speaks about the image of women in advertising. This video may be 4 years old, but it sure is still relevant today, showing just how much hasn’t changed in terms of women’s image in the mass media.

Killing Us Softly 3: Advertising’s image of women
“Advertising tells us who we are and who we should be.” Ads sell concepts that appeal to our senses, so much that we compare our lives to ads, and hope to live …

An open letter to OCBC Bank

Dear OCBC Bank,
Almost 3 weeks ago, I called your hotline and requested for a replacement of my Visa debit card, because the magnetic strip on my current one has been damaged. Your tele-customer service officer informed me that a new card had already been sent out, because it is expiring soon, anyway.
Over a week later, when I did not receive anything, I called the hotline again. Again, your tele-customer service officer assured me that it has already been sent out, and that I should be receiving it in the next …

Personalizing service for a better customer experience

Last weekend, I went to Bridal Closet, a store specializing in rental of bridal gowns as well as bridesmaid’s gowns in Singapore.
I first started noticing this shop because of the number of times they’ve been mentioned on bridal forums. I had expected a positive experience there, since forumers alluded to a wide range of selections, and competitive prices, in various forum threads. Instead, I felt highly uncomfortable in the shop.
From the moment I stepped in, till the moment I left, all I heard were the words “my dear”. The owner …

Locked out of Facebook because I work in Social Media

I’ve been blocked from using Facebook, because of ‘misuse’ of features on Facebook, such as adding friends, sharing links, and sending messages.
According to Facebook,
… managing multiple accounts is a serious violation of Facebook’s Terms of Use. If we determine that an individual has more than one account, we reserve the right to terminate all of their accounts.
(source)
On the topic of business profiles on Facebook, they also say,
Maintaining multiple accounts, regardless of the purpose, is a violation of Facebook’s Terms of Use. If you already have a personal account, then we …

Upcoming event: Social Media World Forum Asia 2010

Social Media World Forum Asia 2010
22-23 September 2010
Suntec City Convention Centre, Singapore
- – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – -
I first heard about Social Media WorldForum Asia from Dorothy Poon, who attended SMWF last year and who has been, for 2 years running, one of the official media partners for this event.
I think this in itself is something exciting for me, because Dorothy is a friend and someone I continually engage with, online and offline. Earlier this year, I also attended …
