Locked out of Facebook because I work in Social Media

23 July 2010 2,740 views 4 Comments

I’ve been blocked from using Facebook, because of ‘misuse’ of features on Facebook, such as adding friends, sharing links, and sending messages.

According to Facebook,

… managing multiple accounts is a serious violation of Facebook’s Terms of Use. If we determine that an individual has more than one account, we reserve the right to terminate all of their accounts.

On the topic of business profiles on Facebook, they also say,

Maintaining multiple accounts, regardless of the purpose, is a violation of Facebook’s Terms of Use. If you already have a personal account, then we cannot allow you to create business accounts for any reason. You can manage all the Pages and Socials Ads that you create on your personal account.

Which means users are supposed to create all Facebook pages, administer them, and manage them from a single user’s individual account.

However, if I use my personal Facebook account to administrate multiple business Facebook pages, which includes:

  • Sending messages to individual members Facebook pages, to obtain feedback, answer their questions, or conduct audits for contests
  • Sharing links and media content on various public pages, including my own Facebook profile, and through Facebook message (to direct Facebook page users to a source to obtain information)
Facebook blocks me for misuse. Right now, my Facebook account has been temporarily disabled, or at least blocked (which means I cannot log in).

I understand that this temporary block will be lifted in about 24 hours, but this makes me wonder:

What else are Social Media Consultants supposed to do, to get around all these restrictions? If I have to manage multiple Facebook pages, how can I not run the risk of getting found out that I run several Facebook pages, and later get banned? Can’t Facebook do something to allow people like myself, to work on Facebook without disruptions?

I really hate you sometimes, Facebook. And to add to all these woes I have about this social network that is the boon and also the bane of my life, Facebook periodically goes down, refusing to load at all. Either that, or loading time of a single page on Facebook has become approximately equal to the time taken to fly to Africa from Singapore.

So screw you, Facebook. If you don’t get your damn act together and solve all these problems, sooner or later, people who work from your platform will start targeting their marketing efforts elsewhere.

Yeah, Facebook have got some messed up policies and some seriously power hungry admins. You ever wanna hear about some of the really nasty stuff they are doing just ask me, they piss me off.

As for speed however, I don’t have that problem, the pages always load fast and the connection here in Indo sucks.
